Something that surprises visitors to The Netherlands is how the tulip growers go in to cut down all the blooms after they’ve done their job of nourishing the bulbs under ground. The growers aren’t really growing flowers, they are harvesting bulbs to sell. So, many times the flowers will be sacrificed. In my visit in 2025 we arrived at the tail end of tulip season when most of the fields were being mowed down. But every now and then there would be a strip or two left of the beautiful blooms.
