Commissions Open for 2024

I’d love to work with you to create a beautiful painting that you can treasure for generations to come!

My process:

  1. You present your vision via email (erinspencerart@gmail.com). You might have a photograph of a place that you’d like me to consider. I am able to travel within a reasonable distance from my home in Rhode Island to paint on location or to gather my own references or do color studies. If you are adamant that I paint from life, and the travel is significant, then we can discuss how to cover those costs as part of the cost of the commission.

  2. You give me either specific dimensions of the painting you are wanting, or you can give me a size range you are thinking about. I give pricing for any sizes you are requesting or thinking about.

  3. Once we decide on a price, a time frame for when you can expect the commission to be ready, and a plan for shipping/pick up of the artwork, then I will send an invoice for a 10% down payment. This goes toward the final cost of the commission and is non-refundable. In the event that you decide to back out of the process I will keep this down payment to cover the costs of any time I have spent to prepare for the painting (i.e.: sketches, painting studies, preparing the painting canvases or panels, etc…) as well as the cost of any materials I have invested into the work, such as canvases, panels, paints, etc. I have never had anyone decide not to purchase a commissioned painting in the end, and I do all I can to insure that you are satisfied with the painting!

  4. After the down payment is received I will begin work on the painting. I typically don’t share progress photos unless it is a significantly large painting that needs to go through several stages before being completed. I might show images of the initial composition and first layers in order to be sure it is going in the direction desired. But please be aware that the finished piece might be quite different to those early stages as things need to be moved around, etc…

  5. Once I am ready I will share images of the finished work. If any changes are needed I will work back into the painting. Once I get your vote of approval I will send an invoice for the balance of the commission. After that is received, and after the painting is dry (up to 3 weeks after it is finished), I will varnish, install in a frame (if part of the commission), and get it packaged and shipped or ready for pick up. I do offer home delivery of paintings within a reasonable driving distance for a fee.
